Do you struggle with sticking to your weight loss plan? And then when you don’t reach your goals, you feel defeated? Maybe you wish you were stronger or had more willpower, then you’d succeed, right?
Firstly, don’t be so hard on yourself. Beating yourself up isn’t going to help anything. Remember, you’re human and it’s normal to struggle with making the best choices. Also, know that God’s not mad at you; He understands that you want to do the right things, but that’s easier said than done.
Secondly, maybe you just need the right tool in your “toolbag” to help you achieve success. Click here to learn about Abide’s Number One Weight Loss Plan!
Finally, understand that your success has little to do with your strength and willpower. Second Corinthians 12:9 says, “But he answered me, ‘My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness.’ So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me.” (Passion Translation)
Let’s dig into this scripture a little deeper and see how it applies to your wellness and health journey.
The Power of Grace
Grace is when God gives you the ability to do something that you can’t do on your own. And this verse says that His grace is “more than enough for you!” When you can’t resist that dessert … when you can’t bring yourself to exercise … when you can’t get yourself to eat one more salad … His grace is there to enable you to do it – in spite of your lack of personal strength!
The Power of Weakness
When Paul was writing these verses, he was facing some sort of difficulty or challenge (a thorn in his flesh). It was eating away at him, and he begged God to take it away. But instead, God responded, “My power finds its full expression through your weakness.” It almost sounds like a contradiction, doesn’t it?
When we are weak and unable in our own strength to succeed, that’s the perfect time for God’s strength to be revealed in us. When we’re strong in ourselves, we don’t need God’s strength. But when we’re weak, we’re desperate for His strength, and that’s exactly where He wants us: dependent on Him, not ourselves. What a thrill it is to experience God strengthening us when we’re weak in ourselves!
The Power of Christ
Isn’t it in our weakness that we become more aware of God’s power working and living in us? That’s why Paul said that he celebrates his weaknesses because it’s in those moments that he senses “more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in [him].”
Is it possible that as long as we’re trying to do lose weight, eat right, and exercise all on our own, that we’ll see minimal success? Could it be that because we’re depending on our strength instead of His… that’s why we keep failing over and over again?
If you feel weak when it comes to doing the right things to lose weight, maybe instead of trying to be stronger, it’s time to embrace (and yes, even celebrate) your weakness and invite God’s strength to come and help you make the right choices.
Open yourself up to His power, remembering that His grace is more than enough for you. Express your dependence on His strength every single moment. When you humble yourself, He will always be there to lift you up and empower you to succeed not only on your path to weight loss but also in every area of your life.
